Steps to Obtain ABA Services

Following enrollment in the ACD:

Step 1 – TRICARE West will issue an authorization for an initial ABA assessment.

Step 2 – You will schedule an appointment for initial ABA assessment. Your ABA provider will evaluate your dependent’s needs and develop a treatment plan. Note: An initial ABA assessment may take place over several sessions.

Step 3 – After initial assessment, your ABA provider will submit a treatment plan and outcome measures to request ABA services to TRICARE West. We will inform you and your ABA provider when we approve ABA services, in writing.

Step 4 – Your dependent can start ABA services with an approved authorization. Parents and caregivers will attend parent training to learn how to apply ABA techniques to support everyday life. Your dependent does not have to be there for these training sessions, but it's a good idea for them to attend.

Step 5 – Every six months, your ABA provider will submit a request to continue ABA services if it is clinical necessary. This request includes an updated treatment plan and outcome measures.

Step 6 – Routine outcome measures

You will complete outcome measures every six months or year depending on the measure. If your ABA provider can’t complete the outcome measures, then your Autism Services Navigator can help.
