Drug Limitations and Requirements

There are limitations and requirements for drugs filled through the Deployment Prescription Program.

Schedule II controlled drugs

Schedule II drug prescriptions may be e-prescribed or mailed to TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery. (Electronic prescribing is subject to federal and state/U.S. territory e-prescribing laws.)

To mail your prescription, you must send a hard copy (paper) prescription with the provider’s handwritten signature and a valid personal DEA number. We don’t accept photocopied, scanned, faxed, or digital signatures.

Send hard copy prescriptions to:

Express Scripts, Inc.
P.O. Box 52012
Phoenix, AZ 85072-2012

You can only get a 90-day supply at a time with no refills.

We may require a new prescription if we find errors.

Schedule III, IV, and V controlled drugs

Your provider can fax prescriptions to Express Scripts, or you can mail your prescription to Express Scripts.

Psychotropic drugs

You may get an initial 180-day supply at the pre-deployment site.

Exception: You can only get a 90-day supply of Schedule II stimulants at the pre-deployment site. In theater, a 180-day supply (total) may be supplied.

We don’t accept mail order prescriptions from pre-deployment sites.

You must see a provider in theater for all follow-up care and prescription renewals.

Non-deployable drug types

You must have proof of an approved CENTCOM waiver.

These types of drugs won’t be shipped to APO/FPO/DPO addresses:

  • Drugs that need refrigerated packaging
  • Drugs that need pressurized dispensing devices
Over-the-counter drugs

Only certain OTC drugs can be filled through the DPP. Contact the Express Scripts DPP team to check if the drug you need can be filled.

Are you deploying to the CENTCOM area of responsibility?
You must meet certain medical standards to deploy. Go to USCENTCOM Theatre Medical Clearance Information to learn more and download related policy information and medical waiver request forms.
