Long COVID
Long COVID is a chronic illness with symptoms lasting long after recovering from COVID-19. Symptoms can continue for three months after being infected. Re-infections can happen even after the initial COVID-19 infection.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
There are many symptoms associated with Long COVID-19. Common symptoms include:
- Bloating, constipation, diarrhea
- Difficulty concentrating
- Light headedness or fast heart rate
- Persistent fatigue
- Problems with taste and smell
- Recurring headaches
- Shortness of breath/cough
If you have symptoms long after a COVID-19 infection, contact your primary care provider to create a care plan for Long COVID.
Prevention
Everyone is at risk of developing Long COVID. More individuals are showing signs of Long COVID as COVID-19 continues to spread. Prevent Long COVID by taking these steps:
- Stay current on COVID-19 vaccines. This is the most effective form of prevention.
- Practice handwashing and good hygiene.
- Prevent the spread of respiratory viruses such as COVID-19.
