I'll be turning 65 soon and will have TRICARE For Life coverage. My spouse isn't 65 yet; what happens to my spouse's TRICARE coverage?
Nothing. Your spouse’s TRICARE coverage doesn’t change. Your spouse may remain in their current TRICARE plan, until he or she becomes Medicare-eligible. Your eligibility for Medicare is a Qualifying Life Event. This means your spouse has 90 days to change plans if they want. Your spouse may also change plans during TRICARE’s Open Season.
- If you and your spouse are TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select enrollees, the enrollment fee will go from a family rate to a single rate when you switch to TRICARE For Life.
- The TRICARE contractor will credit any enrollment fee overpayments to future TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select enrollment fee charges. Call your TRICARE contractor to make sure the enrollment fee is correct.
- If you, your spouse, and children are TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select enrollees, the enrollment fee will stay at the family rate when you switch to TRICARE For Life.
