TRICARE covers ultrasound procedures for the following:- Diagnosis, guidance, and post-operative evaluation of surgical procedures
- Maternity-related procedures:

- Estimating gestational age
- Evaluating fetal growth
- Conducting a biophysical evaluation for fetal well-being
- Evaluating a suspected ectopic pregnancy
- Defining the cause of vaginal bleeding
- Diagnosing or evaluating multiple gestations
- Confirming cardiac activity
- Evaluating maternal pelvic masses or uterine abnormalities
- Evaluating suspected hydatidiform mole
- Evaluating the fetus's condition in late registrants for prenatal care
- Bone density studies:

- Diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis
- Diagnosis and monitoring of osteopenia
TRICARE doesn’t cover ultrasound for the following:
- Routine screening for breast disease
- To determine the sex of an unborn child
- Bone density studies for routine screening for osteoporosis
- Spinal scanning in adults for inflammatory conditions of the spine and nerve roots
- As guidance for facet joint or epidural injections
