Active Duty Service Members and Family
TRICARE only covers hearing aids and hearing aid services if you have hearing loss that meets .
Retired Service Members
TRICARE doesn’t cover hearing aids for retirees. But you may be able to get hearing aids through other government programs. These include:
- The Department of Veterans Affairs
- The Retiree-At-Cost Hearing Aid Program
Through the RACHAP, you may be able to buy hearing aids for a reduced cost at certain military hospitals and clinics. To qualify, you must be eligible for care at a military hospital or clinic.
The military hospital or clinic provides the fitting and follow-up services. Participation in RACHAP may depend on:
- Space
- Equipment
- Provider availability
- Personnel readiness

Children of Retired Service Members
TRICARE only covers hearing aids and hearing aid services for children of retired service members if the child:
- Has hearing loss that meets specific hearing criteria
- Is enrolled in TRICARE Prime or US Family Health Plan
- Has a living sponsor
This coverage isn’t available overseas.
Does your child meet these criteria? If they got hearing aids or services on or after Dec. 22, 2023, you can file a claim for reimbursement for TRICARE covered services.
