Filling Prescriptions When Traveling

We recommend that you get your prescriptions filled before you travel. But if you need one filled while traveling, your options depend on where you're traveling.

If you're traveling:  

In the U.S.

You should get all prescriptions filled before you travel. But if you need to get a prescription filled, you have four options:

  • Military Pharmacy: Call first to see if your prescription is on the Basic Core FormularyA list of drugs that are available at all full-service military pharmacies. They meet most of the primary care needs of TRICARE beneficiaries..
  • Network Pharmacy: All you need is your written prescription and uniformed service ID card.
  • Home Delivery: You can temporarily update your address with Express Scripts to have your prescriptions sent to the address where you'll be. Be sure to update your address again when you return home.
  • Non-network Pharmacy: This is the most expensive option. You may have to pay for the total amount first, and then file a claim for a partial reimbursement.

We recommend that you fill prescriptions before you travel. If you run out of your prescription, you have the following options:

If you're filling a prescription in the Philippines, you must get your prescription filled at a certified pharmacy.

Quantity limits vary by type of pharmacy:

Exceptions can be made if your provider establishes medical necessity.
