Cochlear Implants

TRICARE covers cochlear implantation for bilateral or unilateral implants that are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are in accordance with FDA-indications for implantation. You may need to meet certain criteria.

TRICARE also covers cochlear implant external speech processor device replacement.

TRICARE doesn't cover cochlear implantation when:

  • There are pre-existing conditions, such as a lesion in the auditory nerve or acoustic area of the central nervous system.

  • The implantation carries a risk to the beneficiary.
