TMA Privacy Office Mail

The TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) Privacy Office Mail inbox provides guidance to all individuals and covered entities within or related to the Military Health System (MHS). For guidance regarding your HIPAA Privacy rights for a specific situation, you are encouraged to contact the HIPAA Privacy Officer at your local military treatment facility (MTF). Guidance

The TMA Privacy and Civil Liberties Office (Privacy Office) provides guidance on HIPAA rights by citing relevant provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and any other information papers that may be applicable to a particular situation. This guidance should not be construed as legal advice, nor should it be used as official documentation within a court or similar judicial/administrative proceeding. You are encouraged to contact an attorney for legal guidance if the situation so requires.

Access to Medical Records

You are advised to contact the most recent MTF in which you received healthcare services to obtain copies of your medical records. The Privacy Office is unable to provide or locate your medical records; however, for information on how to go about obtaining your records, please refer to the Privacy Office HIPAA Privacy Information Paper titled "Obtaining Military Records."

HIPAA Privacy Rule Complaints

If you believe that a military treatment facility (MTF) or other Military Health System (MHS) component, has violated your (or the rights of another individual) health privacy rights or committed a violation of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, there is a formal complaint process available to you.
