Health Care Benefits & Risk Management

HEALTH CARE BENEFITS – Oversees the clinical aspects of TRICARE health care benefit delivery, including benefit development and maintenance of benefit currency. As required this office provides clinical consultative guidance for TRICARE benefit appeals for non-active duty members. In addition reviews waiver requests for the use of Supplemental Health Care Program funds for active-duty service members.

RISK MANANGEMENT- The Risk Management (RM) program is a component of the Military Health Services clinical quality program for the DoD. The RM program encompasses identification and mitigation of risk to patients, family members, visitors, and staff as well as the oversight and review of the effectiveness of organizational risk reduction strategies. RM also encompasses the potential risk of liability for death or disability benefits to members of the Uniformed Services arising from possible substandard medical care, including that provided in an operational environment. Military Treatment Facilities implement active RM systems and programs to reduce liability risks associated with actual or alleged medical malpractice and use those systems and programs to reinforce other military quality assurance program activities.

“On October 1, 2013, the Department of Defense established the Defense Health Agency (DHA) to manage the activities of the Military Health System. These activities include those previously managed by TRICARE Management Activity (TMA), which was disestablished on the same date. During the next several months, all TMA websites will change to reflect the new DHA. We appreciate your patience during this transition."
