The Military Health System (MHS) is preparing to test the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) changes to
impacted systems to ensure a successful transition on the October 1, 2014 compliance date. This Newsflash highlights the MHS’ planned
activities related to ICD-10 testing.
This issue summarizes the work of the MHS ICD-10 Integrated Project Team (IPT) Forms and Publications Sub-workgroup (SWG). The Forms and Publication SWG is working to update all
DoD-level forms and publications that currently reference ICD-9 in preparation for the use of ICD-10. Service members with knowledge of other forms and publications referencing ICD-9 that
are not listed in this issue are asked to notify their ICD-10 IPT representative. Each Military Treatment Facility is responsible for updating their local forms and publications for ICD-10.
This issue summarizes the Services' plans to implement their Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) programs to achieve more detailed, complete provider documentation for more accurate coding.
