MHS Rates : MAC
Medical Affirmative Claims (MAC) billing rates are used to recover the cost of health care services, provided by and at the Government expense, for injuries and illnesses caused by a third party. MAC includes Active Duty beneficiaries. MAC involves billing all types of liability insurance, for example:
- Homeowner's and renter's insurance
- General casualty
- Medical malpractice (by civilian providers)
- Workers compensation (for persons other than Federal employees)
Rates used for MAC billing are the same as those included in the Outpatient Itemized Billing (OIB) and Inpatient Adjusted Standardized Amounts (ASA) rate packages. However, these rates must be approved by the Office of Management and Budget and published in the Federal Register before they can be used for MAC purposes. Refer to date of service to determine which Outpatient or Inpatient rate file applies.
Inpatient MAC Rates
FY13 Inpatient rates are effective for MAC billing
FY11 Inpatient rates are effective for MAC billing
