ICD-10 ActivitiesInternational Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision
The Military Health System (MHS) will transition on 1 Oct 2013 to using the ICD-10-CM for healthcare encounter diagnoses, conditions, factors and causes of injury. For discharges on the same date, it will transition to using ICD-10-Procedure Coding System (PCS) for inpatient institutional procedure data collection. To this end, the MHS is taking many actions. These include but are not limited to:
Awareness training in the application of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes. This primarily is occurring at the MHS Revenue Cycle (formerly UBU/UBO) Conference. As the transition date becomes closer, just-in-time/specialty specific training will be available in various educational applications.
Modification of data collection systems to accomodate the longer codes.
Review of forms, manuals, directives and other documents for ICD-9-CM codes. Updating to include ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS as applicable.
