What is an MTF?
| The hospital or clinic on your base or post is a Military Treatment Facility, or MTF. "MTF" has come to be used as shorthand for all uniform services hospitals, clinics, and medical centers (including the several former Public Health Service hospitals that are now called "designated providers" under TRICARE). |
|
All TRICARE Plan options work at MTF.
| Any eligible TRICARE beneficiary can use the MTF for medical care. Your choice of TRICARE plan (Prime, Standard, or Extra), however, can affect your priority for appointments at the MTF. Using the MTF through Prime, instead of seeing a civilian doctor, can save you money and paperwork. |
|
Prime is the usual choice for patients who use the MTF.
| If you choose to enroll in TRICARE Prime, most of your care will be at the MTF. Active duty service members are automatically enrolled in Prime, and many active-duty family members choose to enroll. You must complete and submit the necessary paperwork to enroll in Prime. |
