Surveys : Health Status & Disease Conditions

Progress toward Healthy People 2000 Objectives among US Military Personnel.

Objective: This study examined selected Healthy People 2000 objectives among active-duty military personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Results: Personnel attained Healthy People targets concerning drug use, exercise, cholesterol, and seat belt and helmet use. Characteristics of those at risk for not meeting objectives included being male, young, enlisted, and in a branch of service other than the Air Force. Military policies, requirements, and demographics appear to be positively related to some HP2000 objectives. These same factors may make achievement of other objectives less likely however. Additional efforts may be needed to achieve these objectives.
