Enrollment
Not all TRICARE plans require you to enroll to participate. If you are using the following health plan options, you do not have to enroll. Coverage is automatic as long as you are registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System.
- TRICARE Standard and Extra
- TRICARE Standard Overseas
- TRICARE For Life (you must have Medicare Part A & B)
TRICARE Prime Options
The following TRICARE Prime options require you to enroll to participate. Active duty service members must enroll in one of the Prime options and all others have the option to enroll or use TRICARE Standard and Extra or TRICARE Standard Overseas.
If you have other health insurance, such as an employer-sponsored health plan, then review your options. Enrolling in TRICARE Prime may not be your best option when you have other health insurance.
Purchased Health Plan Options
Upon loss of eligibilty, you may qualifty to purchase the Continued Health Care Benefit Program, which offers temporary transitional coverage after losing TRICARE coverage.
