Applying for Citizenship Overseas
Most children born abroad to U.S. citizens have U.S. citizenship at birth. To get information about recording your child's birth or adoption, call your nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
The Consulate prepares a Consular Report of Birth (FS-240) and can help obtain a passport and Social Security Number for your child.
There is a fee for the FS-240. For cost information, check with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
