Self-Service Options for Stateside TRICARE Beneficiaries

5/23/2014

Permanent change of station (PCS) season is around the corner and there are many tasks to juggle before a move.  Beyond just the basic packing, your health care options with TRICARE may change as well. Although walk-in service at TRICARE Service Centers (TSCs) in the United States has ended, there are multiple, convenient online and telephone customer service options for beneficiaries. Accessing your TRICARE benefit is easier than ever, and you can receive care when you need it.

TRICARE’s “Moving Made Easy” is a great program for active duty service members and their families that currently have a TRICARE Prime option.  With this service, beneficiaries can easily transfer their Prime enrollment via telephone, online or mail. Learn more about “Moving Made Easy” at www.tricare.mil/moving.

After your PCS move, you need to update your information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).  You can change your DEERS information by logging-on to milConnect (www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect).  Through milConnect, you can edit your address, email and phone number as well as access your health care eligibility. For more information on how to update DEERS, visit www.tricare.mil/DEERS.

TRICARE also provides a downloadable contact wallet card that beneficiaries can print and keep with them to have an instant reference to TRICARE health plan information worldwide. To download the card, visit www.tricare.mil/CallUs and click on “TRICARE Contact Wallet Card.”

The TRICARE website is a great resource as well.  At www.tricare.mil, beneficiaries can fill out a profile to get customized and immediate benefit information. Beneficiaries can also get answers to frequently asked questions without calling in, and can email TRICARE to ask a specific benefit question. There’s also the “I want to…” section with links to manage prescriptions, enroll or purchase a plan, find a doctor and much more.

With these online service options, military transitions don’t have to leave you feeling stressed. Save some time by using TRICARE’s online tools.
