Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP)
The Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP) is a premium-based health care program that offers temporary transitional health coverage for 18-36 months after TRICARE eligibility ends. If you qualify, you can purchase CHCBP within 60 days of loss of eligibility.
CHCBP acts as a bridge between military health benefits and your new civilian health plan with coverage comparable to TRICARE Standard. You can also have prescriptions filled at network pharmacies or via home delivery while covered by the CHCBP.
Eligible Beneficiaries
Under certain circumstances, the following former beneficiaries may be eligible. In all cases, the separation for the service member must be under "other than adverse conditions."
For those using a premium-based TRICARE health benefits plan such as TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, or TRICARE Young Adult, these plans must have been purchased and in place before the loss of eligibility to qualify to purchase the CHCBP.
